Jeff,

I can't explain the fluid on the ground, but it could be brake fluid on the floor mat. Do you have a manual transmission? If so, it could be a leak on the hydraulic clutch master cylinder. This also uses the same reservoir as the braking system.

The top of the gage cluster pops off, and then you can get to the master cylinder.
