I just drove the van around the parking lot and backed in and out of the parking space a few times. Couldn't hear any strange noises from the transmission and had no problems shifting. But I couldn't go fast enough to leave 2nd gear in this lot.

Also I crawled under and shifted by hand. It finally dawned on me what people were talking about. Now that I know, I'd like to try to get it stuck again so I can put the question of transmission or shifter to rest.

On another note... there is some noise coming from the shifter itself, and it feels like there's some resistance. It actually feels harder to get into 1st now. Of course I did screw around with the shifter so I may have caused all of this.

I'll try to find my way to 4th gear tomorrow and go from there.
