The bentley should give you the max and min. however though it is recommended that a stack of three be used I have seen one or two used before. This dates way back to type 1 engines as well as other engines I have worked on. If you are replacing with the same flywheel use the same washers as was there and hopefully the backspace was adjusted correctly. You can torque to about 75 foot pounds and then check the play with a gauge. Suspect that you may not have one so you may have to borrow one.
