DON'T DO ANYTHING......

until you have checked the security of the bolts holding the CV's in place. Those bolts are notorious for backing off, and if they do the CV will work and will make a noise that sounds just like a CV that is failing. Check them, and if loose, tighten and drive the vehicle. No noise ... problem solved!! Noise still present....you have a bad CV! If the CV has worn to the point of making noise, it's gone. Pull the CV and replace it with a new one, including new boots, new grease and new bolts.

Replacement is an easy, if time consuming task.
