My father was in the military from 1966 to 2000. We were a family of eight on a military pay. My father would bring home c-rations all the time for us and we were quite exited about the chocolates. When I was in the service we only had mre or as we called them "boil-in-the-foils". I liked everyone of them except the omelettes(we always traded them to the brits). My parents live right near Algonquin Park and if you are doing any interior camping you are not allowed canned goods so the mres are great for this purpose. I still eat them when I am backpacking but no longer military issue. There are many civilian companies that make these and many are atkins and diabetes associataion approved.
