If the rubber is loaded with dirt, dirt, grim, and oil it should be
replaced, especially after 20 years.

The CV bolts can be replaced with regular allen socket screws, just make
sure they are grade 12.9. Most CV boot kits come with new hardware. The
12 points are less likely to strip out.

2 Q's:
a)  Does anyone know if, when new, the tranny mount attaches to the
inside of circle that encloses it at 3 points or 2?  The rubber is
separated at the top of the "triangle"; between wear and grime I can't
tell if it tore away or not... not sure if this is ok or needs
replacing.

b) Has anyone replaced the 12pt ("star-pattern") CV-joint bolts with
plain ole hex-head bolts?  Looks like they are M8 1.25pitch, about 50mm
length, but the end of the 12pt bolt is slightly shorter and more
tapered than the replacements I'm looking at... thanks for opinions.
