Subject: head studs & cv boots

Hi all,

I'm still waiting for a new exhaust manifold (#1 & 3) to arrive and to install before I put my tranny back in Billy Bones. It is just easier to do it with the tranny out. I know that # 3 exhaust is supposed to have studs, but when I put Bill Bones back together back in March, I used 8 x 30 stainless steel bolts with wavy washers. Now that I'm back in there I'm thinking of going back to those 8 x 38 stainless steel studs. Any thought on this?

In addition, the thread on CV axles got me to thinking, so I examined my boots carefully. Those near the tranny are great, but one of the boots near the wheel is split. Now I have never pulled one of those axles from back in that cave near the wheel. I think I can remove it okay, but is replacing the boot itself a big job? Yep, I know it'll be a dirty one. Anything I ought to be looking out for?

Many thanks,

Warren Lail 88 Westy "Billy Bones"
