This is what everyone is talking about, check those before you do anything.

Everyone did great replies as for, checking brake and other stuff.

Go in an empty parking lot and drive the van hard wile turning, breaking and accelerating hard... you should hear which side is the problem.

In most cases, a normal CV joint failure is accompanied by a boot failure also (open). So in your case, yon don't seem to have the boot failure???

Anyway, i find that it's quite dificult on Vanagon or any rear wheel drive vehicle equiped with CV to be 100% sure of which side is the faulty side!!!

But hey, if the CV's are old....it maybe time for a rebuilt anyway...
