If I'm remembering correctly, the GVWR of the Vanagon is 5500 pounds,
2200 kilos.

A passenger Vanagon runs around 3700 pounds. I.E, as Dennis stated,
about 1800 pounds of cargo space (including humans).

I think VW rated them as 3/4 ton trucks.
