Wrong, there is both an O-ring and seal at the CV joint to the tranny that keeps oil from escaping the tranny. Only difference is the seal that was talked about earlier this week will lead to oil leaking into the CV boot and the O-ring on the bearing carrier will allow oil to leak to the outside. To change the O-ring you will need to just remove the bearing carrier with the special VW tool or one that you invent. No need to diassemble the tranny. Remember to mark its location before starting to unscrew it as it is the adjustment for the bearing load on the ring & pinion therefor the plastic locking disc.
