Over the years I've found that having a little NEON tester saves the Shock
procedure for the country boys. You can make your own neon tester from two
leads and a neon bulb from Radio Shack or just buy the tester from most auto
parts stores.
The home made tester is my preference because I make it up with long leads
and It’s a one man job by just tossing the test bulb over the rear seat you
can see it while cranking the engine.

Joy,
In this situation you need to first check for spark. Remove the dis.
cap. center wire and hold the center mettle section of the wire
1/8" from a good ground. CAUTION this can kill you. Hold the
wire with a good insulated tool. Have someone run the starter,
and look to see a spark. If you get shocked, you did
not use a good insulated tool. If you get KILLED, I warned you.
But this is the first step, any machanic will do.
