Personally on my own sites I go minimal usually using tables that are free to expand and contract to the size of a browser and minimize graphics on pages that donΉt need them.

For picture pages I try to still keep it so that a 56k still wont die trying. On some pages like that I will actually increase the size of the thumbs so that they are in a viewable size but not the full bandwidth draining full size pic.

There are many ways to do this stuff but too many people these days are not taking the slower connection to heart as they do the slower bus.
