The aftermarket ones do rust quickly. This process can be slowed down by waxing them regularly. The OEM ones are better but are still not original VW quality. I sell the aftermarket ones mucht cheaper than GoWesty - $8.95. I no longer sell the OEM ones because at $50 the price difference is just too hard to justify. They'd have to last six times longer to be worth that kind of money, and frankly they don't. If I could find a supply closer to the $25 or so I used to sell them for, then I'd sell them again.

Note that what we are discussing here are old style chrome hubcaps (also used on a Bus), not the newer style plastic ones. The plastic wheel covers originally found on most later Vanagons are now discontinued by VW (and were a pricy $69 each when last available). These chrome ones will fit, as will some generic plastic ones available at your local FLAPS.
