There is an easy fix for this. The problem is that the two mating surfaces are very smooth, and hence that makes it easy for the mirror to move. Take the mirror off, loosen the nut that holds the base to the mirror. Using rough sandpaper or emery cloth, roughen both surfaces. Re-assemble and DO NOT put any grease or lubricant on the mating surfaces. Tighten and adjust.

I replaced them already, but even the new ones have the same problem. I have to tighten them almost to the point that the base cracks to get them to stick. Until I meet the next 18 wheeler in a headwind... Do the power mirrors on the later models have the problem? Do they fit on the older door? Can they be adjusted manually? I don't want to put the whole mechanism in the door. Also my interior rear view mirror disintegrates. What's a good place to get a replacement and how is it done? Thanks in advance for your help, Reinhard
