Chuck, I live in UpState NY where salt is used on the roads and have found that it is not worth the effort to make your mint van road worthy in the winter. It will rust. My 91 Syncro Westy gets stored for the winter season and i recommend the same for any vehicle that you would like to keep mint.

On the flip-side, I took a 87 Syncro with rusty seams, sandblasted all the rust and used POR15 on the rusty areas and then laid many coats of truck bed liner over the untire underbody & wheelwells. I powerwash this van on a weekly basis when it is salty. I am very pleased with this method. i'm sure that I sealed in all the rust that i couldn't see and in a matter of years it will eat through, but hey, this van is my Salt Beast and I have the most fun 4wheelin' with.

Hope this helps.
