Well, I did a lot of what Gnarlie suggested - 160 out of Walsenburg, La Veta
pass, etc. She didn't mention visiting her in Santa Fe, which I also did,
in fact that's where I'm emailing from. It's great to finally connect faces
with names!
I didn't get any Mexicans to push my van, however. Matilda has gotten quite
comfy riding on tow trucks by now, so she got to do that again.
The problem with my van turned out to be quite trivial - a loose connection,
which the mechanic in Walsenburg found quickly and didn't waste his time and
my money messing around. Whew! He (Curtis Pryor) turns out to be a
VW-trained mechanic from back in something like 1968, and he's worked on VWs
his whole life. So if anyone needs a mechanic in Walsenburg, Pryority
Motors is definitely the place.
Thanks to everyone who sent suggestions, condolences, or anything else! You
guys are great moral support, even if I'm useless at doing my own repairs.
And to those who wonder why I haven't given up on vanagons, well, it's
because it's so much fun meeting all of you on the way! Besides, I'm
stubborn. :-)
Joy
