I had a rounded out flywheel bolt (hex head) and removed it quickly and easily with a tool called a "bolt out". The one I used was a Craftsman and worked well because there was room to put a wrench on it. You see, the Craftsman branded ones aren't made to where you can insert a 3/8" rachet driver ... but there are other brands that are.

If you would like some pictures of the tool I can take some for you in a matter of minutes.

Anyway, this would be the better way to go.
