I assume you are speaking of the type 4 2.0 air-cooled the lift is the same on all bus vanagon cams as I recall solid verses hydraulic. the exception is the 914 cam it is solid lifter and has more lift .20ths or so you can use a hydraulic cam in a solid lifter engine but not the other way around. The difference is the starting ramp angle of the lobe. some cams had a ring next to the middle main journal as a way to determine solid verses hydraulic but most cams have been reground once at least and they can be reground to hydraulic or solid specs. if it has not been reground consider having it done. For solid cams have the OEM lifters reground NEVER us any aftermarket solid lifter with a stock OEM cam I have never seen that trick work for hydraulic cams have it reground use the Febi brand lifters works every time don't preload the hydraulic lifters see my article on my web page for more hydraulic lifter info Boston engine.com Bob Donalds Boston engine ----- Original Message ----- From: "phil cain" <bearsvw2000@YAHOO.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Tuesday, November 23, 2004 1:25 PM Subject: Camshafts Hyd/solid ?
