My 88 GL has the AC controls in the overhead above the windshield.

However, I don't know of any reason not to remove the tunnel and run the AC blower from the back and simply let it blow forward.

Problem!! The cable from the rear AC unit up to the AC controls up front is INSIDE the tunnel. Therefore that AC cable will have to be re-routed if the tunnel is removed.
