John: I'm not looking for guts. (I have a 911) What I'm looking for is something like I just said: " Quiet, Reliable, powerful, thrifty. " Well, not VERY powerful, just powerful compared to the 356SC/ 912 motors or the 912E motor.Something like 95-105 hp. And by thrifty, I mean fuel and Maintenance. No more $3000 crankshafts, $300 main bearings or crazy collector car prices on parts. I also kinda like the idea that it would bolt to a 901 trnany. I know the clutch won't quite work. Gotta figure that one out, too. In defense of the Wateboxer: Yes, this is an engine that was designed in 1959, evolved, got water cooling in 1983. It is a very old obsolete design. Not cutting edge, sometimes that cutting edge cuts you. It is just the opposite, an evolved design. But in a word, what I am looking for is "Balance". Al Brase
