I think the Muir book has quite a bit of pertinent information so it's probably worth owning. I like it and dip into it regularly but I do find the use of English a little hard to read. Also, I'm still not convinced this book is for the absolute beginnner, he does tend to delve into topics that have not been previously explained for someone with little knowledge on how cars work.

No doubt the Bentley book is invaluable for when you actually start working on your van but it's not the right book for actually learning how the vehicle works.

I really knew next to nothing about cars when I got my vanagon and the best book I have read to date on the subject is "Fixing Cars; a peoples primer". It's a little old but you can probably find it on-line. This book really assumes you know nothing and is a great starting point to the books above.

Cheers.

I have seen the John Muir book on VWs, but it's about air-cooled vehicles and mine is water-cooled. How much would it apply to a late-model vanagon? Are there other books anyone would recommend for learning how my vehicle works? > > I look forward to your suggestions. > > R. Shah > > > --------------------------------- > Do you Yahoo!? > Yahoo!
