So some questions that I have for you all:

What is a possible failure point underneath the vehicle? Rack seal failure or rusted lines both common problems.

How do I know the pump is still good? You have to fix the leak to check the pump.

Is it the rack it-self or could it be a hose/connector? Could be one or the other or both.

Did my cranking the wheel all the way casue a burst in a line? or a better question, does cranking the wheel all the way cause any extra pressure in the PS system. No. the system has a pressure relief valve that does not allow over pressuring when at full lock, left or right.

I eventually want to do a EJ2.2 swap and was wondering if the PS pump is used from the Wasserboxer or do you use the subaru PS pump? dont know if I should invest in a new/rebuilt unit? No idea !

See my _Vanagon Power Steering Lines_ (http://members.aol.com/Fkc43/hose.htm) webpage if you need to replace rusted out power steering lines. I also rebuild the racks and sell rebuilt racks, see my _Vanagon Items Forsale_ (http://members.aol.com/Fkc43/sales.htm) webpage.
