We (my brother and I) used an aluminium, slip yoke shaft in a GT-1 Camaro that we raced SCCA with, only to go back to steel because it made a ton of noise (pinging) while shifting. This alone would drive me crazy in one of my Syncros. Mechanics also commented that more power can be transfered to the wheels via steel.
