William, when my manual tranny was rebuilt, somehow the shop managed to break my backup light switch. Took every bit of 5 minutes to fix, not counting the time to put it up on the rack. The switch just sits in a little bracket mounted on the side of the tranny. No big deal.

The switch could be broken, the electrical connector could be off the post, or the bracket could need adjusting for contact to be made.
