A "reasonably" inaccurate odometer wouldn't account for the difference
in mileage she's getting. Two miles out of a hundred is two percent.

I've been following her comments on the diesel list (over a year) long
enough to know hers is not just a cursory observation. It's got to be
how the engine is timed and how she drives it.

I have a westy, the very best I can do in  mixed driving is 350 miles
per tank.
