The first principals I learned in marketing is that you do an survey and find out what the people want. Next, you manufacture what the people want, then you sell to the people what they wanted. Add to the mix a few things to help create a desire to actually have that which they want, and there will be a wanting consumer, a willing consumer, a waiting consumer - ready to buy when the product is made available to them.

That said, I sometimes wonder if VW has a clue. I personally think there is a pent-up demand for a solid, well made German van at a modest price, and not just because of all the action on this list. We are a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of the population. If they would do their marketing I believe they could bring a new product here and sales would take off like a rocket. There was a huge "Product Recognition" response to that prototype van they presented at some of the auto shows a while back, the van the looked a lot like a 1953 model or so. If they had carried through, but made it with more utility, I think sales would have gone through the roof.

Oh, Well!
