Mark,

You've had a lot of diesels so I don't doubt you, but the 82 7 passenger consistently returned 32mpg in mixed local driving (all flat, no hills, nothing over about 50mph). Mileage dropped to the upper 20's the one time I drove it into the mountains of VA and we sold it soon after. This was all with a very light foot, which seems to help. BTW, my 87 golf (gas) would routinely get 30/31mpg on long trips. Again, flat land and light foot.
