I don't lose any coolant in my system now. The first time I started to put in coolant every few hundred miles, I later found out that my cylinder head had a small fracture. The second time this happened, I later found that I had a small leak in a coolant hose. I think that coolant hoses are pretty common problems in 20 year old vehicles. Make sure the hoses aren't rubbing on anything (like the axle).
