This is the same problem with driving a vehicle that was not imported
properly (i.e., no DOT or EPA certification). Your vehicle may be currently
registered and insured, but once the investigating officer runs your VIN #
and finds out that it wasn't legally imported, your are at fault and your
insurance is invalidated.
Cheers,
Jeff

You lose your drivers license? Hmm. I never heard of this. I can check in
California if anyone is interested but I'm pretty sure no has ever weighed
the vehicles involved in a normal accident.
Who knows though, California has some weird laws. For example, you are hit
by an illegal alien, drunk, with 12 prior DUI, you are parked legally when
this happens. Your vehicle is not currently legally registered. It's your
fault.
And you have no insurance coverage, no matter how current your payments or
long term your coverage.
