The 2.0L block is 16.5mm taller, so I think there will be a few dimensional
differences to overcome.

Subject: [Syncro] Anyone use A3 serpentine pulleys & brackets on a VW
1.8 inline-4?
Hi Folks,
Today I started installing A3 brackets, pulleys, alternator, & PS pump
from an A3 Golf into my Vanagon GL with an inline-4 conversion from a
1993 VW Fox.
Anyway, I discovered tha the 2.0 inline-4's have an additional boss
drilled and tapped for the 4th nut or bolt on the main cast aluminum
bracket. The original cast iron bracket bolted in a different place.
Three of the nuts/bolts are in the same place. The archives discuss
installing this stuff in Tiico motors and 2.0 ABA block engines. Those
engines have the extra threaded hole. The 1.8 I am using does not.
Has anybody here ever use the same for the 1.8? If you have, how did
you deal with the missing attaching point? I am trying to decide if I
should drill and tap a new hole. The 2.0 blocks have some
reinforcement for the area to be drilled. I was also thinking that a
small plate bolted to the original 1.8 mounts could be made to connect
the hole for the A3 brackets. Or has anyone simply left them out?
Any advice will be appreciated. I hate to reinvent the wheel. Since
this is a fairly popular swap, I thought someone may have undergone
this conversion before.
TIA,
BenT
