I think the point here is that the new CV assemblies are $200 just for the parts. You then take your axle shafts and rebuild them with the new bearings. The rebuilts are not recycled shafts with new bearings, they are recycled shafts with recycled bearings. My vendor told me that the bearing races are bored out and larger balls are used. The downside as explained to me was that these machined surfaces are no longer heat treated, as are the new parts.
