Rob, After wanting a westy for 20 years I finally bought an '84 last year in Virginia with 126k miles. I have had a blast with it ever since. However the email post from Denis hits the nail on the head. I've done many of the repaires Denis mentioned and then some. If you keep reading this mailing list and also the westfalia.org web page you will soon see the common repairs that these aging vehicles need. If you like tinkering you will have a blast, if not you will likelly get frustrated with it. Preventative maintenance is important and there is a wealth of infomation on the web for the vanagon. The price seems quite good given the condition you describe. (BTW that shrunken cabinet piping can be heated up with a heat gun and restreached into place). If you decide to buy it you will soon discover that you have joined a fun and supporting community. Pascal '84 Westy |
