Mounted right inside the sliding door on the battery box pillar floor I carry a 10 pounder BC. Mounted with a bungee rather than clamps for fast grab. In the rear compartment of my westy cabinet are two little 1 pounders. The one pounders go next to my generator set if I use it or next to stove or fridge if set up outside of the van. The big extinguisher is mounted away from the engine bay so that it can be grabbed if needed for an engine fire. Note that the little 1 pounders are only good for a momentary delay and will not extinguish many engine fires. In the westy they were in there to meet the minimum requirement for a kitchen fire as required by the code at that time.

This is a california link to a current code. Note that these codes by states are usually derived from nfpa 1192 and nfpa 58.
