as a p.s. to my last post on innumeracy, note that as the actual mileage goes down, 1/mpg goes up faster and faster, and that may account for claims of higher mileage at higher speeds, say crusing at 100 mph vs 80 mph vs 55 mph. if the actual mileage is 5 mpg @ 100 mph, 14 mpg @ 80 mph, and 18 mpg @ 55 mph, the respective numerical values of 1/mpg, ignoring a few zeros, would be 200, 71 and 55.
