Subject: CV boot replacement - easy!
Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Greetings Mates,

I have the tranny out of Billy Bones for new synchronizers (just had it rebuilt, but we're doing it again, this time with LASO synchronizers). I can remove the tranny in about an hour now (no need to pull the engine).

While under the bus, I noticed that one of my CV boots was split, so purchased a new boot and a tube of Lubro-Moly CV grease, removed the axle, and sauntered over to Volkscafe.com and followed the directions there. The photos are great and the directions are very straightforward and easy to follow. (Before you start, go buy yourself a box of surgical gloves and a roll of paper towels, because this is a messy job). I'm going to rotate the axles as suggested to try to extend the life a bit.

How much did it cost? $6.50 for the CV boot and $3.00 for the tube of grease, plus a little labor (mine and Maggie's).

"Suddenly he - the captain, that is - began to pipe up his eternal song: 'Fifteen men on the dead man's chest - Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum! Drink and the devil had done for the rest - Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum!' At first I had supposed 'the dead man's chest' to be that identical big box of his upstairs in the front room, and the thought had been mingled in my nightmares with that of the one-legged seafaring man."
