Mike,

I just removed my dash to replace the heater core. In my van (85) the padded dash is glued and screwed in from underneath. There are about 8 screws holding it in and about a dozen or so little Screw type clips holding it on along the passenger compartment edge.

I am looking to find some solution to recover it, since it is almost impossible to find a replacement (brown) in any better shape than the one I am removing. If worse comes to worse I will either consider replacing a black padding on my brown dash (need to see how it looks) or just replace the entire dash with a black one. The black dashes are much more common and For some reason seem to hold up better.

You can't just remove the pad because of the holes that will be left in the dash. Good luck and keep me updated.

Tim

Hi All,

Has anyone tried removing the top pad that comes on some of the 80's dashes to get down to the hard plastic dash? My 84 Westy dash looks alot like a pan of over-baked brownies that has sat out uncovered for a week... my 84 van looks much better/cleaner, even tho it is just plastic. I'm wondering if this has been tried, and if whatever adhesive (if there is any) holds it on is removable from the underlying plastic. I can live with having to relocate the cool passenger map lite.

Cheers, Mike
