Tom, those clips should have screws in  them if they are original.  If so
remove the screws then pull the grill  forward and the clips will pop out.  If
there are no screws then the clips  have been replaced recently with the new
style clip from VW with a plastic push  pin lock.  You will have to push this pin
through to release the tension on  the clip.  If you have difficulty pushing
the pin out just drill the pin  out and use a screw of the appropriate size as
the lock when replacing the  clips.
