I had that problem with a -82 VW Golf (Rabbit) Diesel I used to own . Took it to a friend who has his own workshop and he said it was an easy fix that he normally wouldn´t preform in front of customers since it was a bit rough...... He opened the door, lovered the window, put a knee as high up on the inside of the door as he could reach and pulled the windowframe towards himself a couple of times Then we tried the fit and it was tight ! He explained to me that the top part of the door was too weak and that this was the way to adjust since the door was warped and impossible to get tight by adjusting hinges ! I don´t know if it´s useable on Vanagon doors......
