There is a latching point on the rear and the front of the door to keep it
closed. 
 Once when I jammed somehthing in my slider at the back I kept pulling and
pulling on the handle and could get it to open.  Then I smacked the door to
see about popping the panel off and it just slid open.

It is a latch similar to a door latch controlled by a rod from the
handle/locking mechanism at the front.  I found that if the rod or either
end latch is not set correctly none of it is and the door will just pop
open.
