Your cheapest fix is to buy an engine rebuild gasket set. You'll also need to buy a front main seal and a rear main seal since they don't come with the kit. Here is what seals to replace. 1) Front main behind the flywheel / flex plate. Alos the pilot bearing if it's a standard. 2) Rear main seal behind the fan 3) Pushrod tube seals both sides. 4) Valve cover gaskets both sides. 5) Distributor drive O Ring. 6) Oil Cooler seals. 7) Oil fill tube seal at case. 7) Oil strainer plate seals and O ring. 8) Oil drain O ring seal. You should remove the rocker arms and retorque the head / case bolts. Retorque every other bolt you can find on the engine. Clean the engine meticulously before it is re-installed in the van. Replace all the Fuel Injection Hoses in the Engine Bay and coming into the bay. That's realy low compression on the cylinders. I've got a very good engine ready to go at http://www.engineceramics.com/vw/vwparts.htm , no core charge and about $145.00 freight to either the east or West Coast. You can have it in before Christmas. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Stan Wilder Engine Ceramics 214-352-4931 www.engineceramics.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul Guzyk" <paullist@GUZYK.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Monday, December 20, 2004 9:52 AM Subject: 81 Air cooled, famous for leaking oil where?
