So... I have been pronouncing it wrong all these years. I have always said "van-ah-gone" as in the doctor tells you to open up and say ahhhhh - but if the last part of the word is wagon, then it would be correctly said "van-eh-gone" as is most Canadian's favourite word... eh! - I knew there was a Canadian connection somewhere! :-) It's funny how words in other counties are said... TriStar to me is like saying "try-star" in German it is "tree-star" - I guess mine is right at home here in the forests of British Columbia! All right... that's enough. Here's the official explanation straight out of the 1980 VW Vanagon sales brochure: "Vanagon" is a new name. You probably haven't seen not heard it before. It's actually a combination of "van" and "station wagon". Vanagon. Not only a new name -- a totally new kind of vehicle from Volkswagen.
