Jim,
I know Panera Bread has free wireless internet available at their stores
in my area...not sure if its free everywhere else.
I use my Sprint cell phone and connection cable to use their "unlimited
vision" internet service.
I am planning on getting Satellite internet for traveling on extended
periods of time...will let you all know how that works.
Dave

I do this all the time... Google the city you're going to before you go
for wifi hotspots. You'd be amazed. Starbucks also has great broadband
but they charge for it, I've heard McDonalds is setting up wifi, even
saw the sign at a McDonalds on I-65, but the staff didn't know anything
about it.
Be advised that my ISP will allow me to surf the web and receive email
from any other network, but I can only SEND through my network,
locally. So, if I'm traveling, I can't send you an email (from my email
client) but I can get email from you. The workaround is that I can use
my ISP's webmail service, which works great. Or get yourself a hotmail
account. Or check with your ISP, maybe they don't have the same lame
security strategies that mine does.
