Subject: 1.9 without expansion tank?????????
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Howdy

I need tech advice.

I am going to see a 1.9 Caravelle 1983 on saturday, 1.9 gasoline, carburettor.

Owner says it had a 1987 engine, and that died, so he swapped in another engine.

He says cooling system is different on the engine he put in. He thinks it is a 83 engine - but doesnt know.

Anyway, he talks about lacking the pipe that runs around the enginebay, and connects cooling system to expansion tank???????????

He talks about the resoirvoir for cooling fluid is located at the rear of engine, next to oil-pipe, so that filling up with coolant is done via the "rear flap".

I cant see the car untill saturday- so I have no clue of what he is talking about.

1.9 gasoline are rare in Denmark, so I might have to buy it more or less unseen.

So I am relying on the knowledge of this forum to give me some clues of what to look for, could the cooling system be OK without the expansion tank - am I about to get myself the largest LEMON in the world or what?

/JJ
