Actually, the tank behind the license plate flap is correctly called a coolant recovery tank (or reservoir) as there is no pressure for expansion. Coolant comes to this tank from the second tank/expansion tank when running hot and then is sucked (or recovered) back into the system (second tank/expansion tank) while the engine cools down (at least that's the theory behind it). The second tank to the left of that inside the engine compartment is correctly called coolant expansion tank, as the coolant pressure expands and contracts in that tank and there is a pressure relief cap on the tank (also called the coolant expansion tank cap).
