1/4" refrigeration copper tubing is the easiest way to go from one side
of the van to the other. A sleeve can be used for protection if you
think it is needed. This tubing will usually bend or crimp on impact
long before getting punctured. An excess flow POL at the tank outlet
will limit the flow in the event of the tubing breaking.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware that you shouldn't tie two tanks
together that way.
Your recommended regulator looks like the way to go. Only problem I see
is having to run a high pressure pipe or hose across the bottom of the
van. Might be a bit vulnerable there, but I guess not any more than the
tanks themselves!
