John Reynolds,

Go Westy

Boston Engine

Bus Depot

and ???

There is a ton of information about conversions: subaru, TDI, TD, Tiico, and so on. I'm not sure which way is the best to go when the time comes.

Depending on who you talk to or what you read one is better than the other: Brian at small cars says subaru is the best (he installs subarus) Lucas at Go Westy & Bob at Boston Engine say the wasserboxer is the best & that's what the sell.

The Tico salesperson says the tico conversion is best.

The TDI advocates recommend their conversion....

There is no simple answer, and the more I read the more muddy the water gets. If Bob & Lucas are honest & right, when the time comes I'll go wbx with one of their engines. If they last 100k at around $4000 they are much cheaper and easier for me to install than any conversion. They are smooth, get 20 MPG, will do 70+ on level and downhill, slow uphill like a westy should be :')

At least WBX is a simple plug & play install I can do myself and the bentley manual works. You put frankestein in your vanagon and who's gonna work on it?

I'd love to convert to a better engine, I just have yet to be convinced suby or TDI or what have you is better. Not yet anyhoo.
