While on this subject, has anyone ever wired a factory tach from a later model to an earlier model Vanagon.

Scenario: My '85 Instrument Cluster was crapped out, I installed a newer one from an '87. Tach no go, but previously the clock was a no go as well. I am still looking for that .5 Red Wire to the #5 on the multi connector that is shown in the Bently. This wire supposedly goes to one of the #30s on the light switch. Same for the Tach, IIRC. Could this be the reason?

I guess I want to know almost the same question can this be bypassed? But where is the signal sent from? I don't have the Bentley here at work with me.
