Okay I assumiong the years of the Vanagons are like tose of all the VW's I have owned where the year manufacture is most often the latter part of the previous year. Mine is an '85, Manufacture date 10/84.

According to the Word Doc. I should have a Green wire in there for the tach that runs to the coil correct? I can't remember if there was or not I will check it out tonight. But if it is not there I could bypass to that terminal and straight to the coil.

By the way the digital clock on the new cluster does work where the old one did not.

The red wire to the clock on #5 was there, but trace it into the loom and it disappears in to the abiss of the underdash wiring. It is supposed to end up at the light switch terminal #30. There is also a bigger red wire to the other #30 on the switch. I believe this goes to the fuse block and expect the other end of the red I was looking for is connected there as well to make the connection to the #30 via the bigger wire. Does this make sense?

Anybody know if this is correct?

Same for the Tach, IIRC. Could this be the reason?
