This is one of those little bits of pointless minutiae that's been bothering me since I got my Vanagon. Why is it that some have that 3-sided stamped-in "tray" area on the passenger side of the dashboard, and others do not? It looks like the pre-84's didn't have it, and MOST of the 85 and later one's do. But there seem to be exceptions. My 1990, for example doesn't have it, but most 90's I see do. Is it because mine is one of the less common base models made in Graz, Austria, where they normally made Syncros? Do Syncro models not have the dash tray? Am I insane to be obsessing on this? Anyone crazy like me want to see my quick-and-dirty photo survey on the subject? <bange.us/dash>
