Give yourself a present this Christams, I have a 1990 Subaru 2.2 engine for sale complete with all the Subaru support goodies (computer, full Subaru wiring harness, hoses, A/C compressor, Power steering pump, etc). I will give you everything you need from the Subaru “donor car” for your Vanagon conversion. Only $700 correctly "pulled" and ready to pick up. Photos here: http://www.californiavan.com/subaru01/subaru01.html The car was rear ended, but it is still in excellent running condition. The engine has 180,000 miles, but it is a good runner and has been well maintained. The car was owned by the same family since new. The car has always been on the west coast. (Sold new in Oregon then the last few years in Berkeley) Compression test is 175 PSI +/- 5 PSI on all 4 cylinders. No oil or coolant leaks (according to my “carboard on the ground overnight” test), engine does not appear to burn oil. Here's the good part, if you are near the SF Bay Area you can take the car out for a spin, hear the motor, do your own compression test, get a feel for everything. If you decide to buy it, give me 2-3 days and I'll pull everything you need out of the Subaru for your Vanagon conversion. (yes, my labor is included in the engine price). You'll end up with a known working configuration, all the bits you need (from Subaru) and you won't have to get dirty. If you are in another part of the country, perhaps you know someone in the Bay Area who can do the test drive? Or perhaps I can send you a Quicktime video of the engine running? Engine pick up is preferred, but shipping can be arranged at additional cost. Note: You will still need flywheel and adaptor plate etc from Kennedy or Smallcar or whomever...
